Nature’s Narrative

What we do
Theatre of the 7 Directions strives to reconnect humans to themselves and the rest of Nature through the ancient art of performance. By way of movement, voice, and story, we can become more deeply rooted into the Earth that we all share – humans and other-than-humans.
We are a nonprofit ecotheatre organisation registered as a charity in Scotland. With our headquarters in the rural, coastal, international Findhorn Ecovillage in the Scottish Highlands, we are primarily situated to bring creative people from around the planet back to the beauty of the natural world.
We are passionate about this work as we deeply feel its importance in these uncertain times. In an age of disembodiment, existential despair and resulting ecological destruction, it is vital for humans to look and live in new directions. A course with us will show you how the magic of ecotheatre can enliven every aspect of your life.
What are the 7 Directions?
The 7 directions that we holistically point to throughout our activities are north, east, south, west, above, below and centre.
The four cardinal directions represent different stages of the cycles found in all of nature – sunrise to night, Spring to Winter, birth to death, beginning to end.
Below is the Earth on which our feet are stably grounded, and above are the wider cosmos that we look out to with wonder.
At the centre of all this is the seventh direction, the call to look within.
Who We Serve
All ages and types of people can benefit from our programmes, but we particularly focus on teens, elders, teachers, parents and artists.
We have had intergenerational shows where the cast ages varied between 10 and 85.
Some courses are for specific groups, like our teenage summer camps.
Bursary and volunteering opportunities are available to make our experiences accessible to those who might be socioeconomically disadvantaged – contact us for more information.
Summer Camp Programs
Described by past Ecotheatre Summer Campers as “the best summer camp in Scotland”, and even Europe, this year is your chance to experience this fun life-changing journey.
Summer Camp is a ten-day programme of theatre, nature exploration, and art & wellbeing workshops that climaxes in a public final performance.
Over this time, you’ll forge potentially lifelong connections with new friends and artistic collaborators from around the world.
The camps take place in the forward-thinking Park Ecovillage, as well as the picturesque Scottish fishing village of Findhorn.
These are located amidst the varied, wild landscape of Northern Scotland on a relatively unpopulated peninsula. Beaches, forests, and the stunning Findhorn Bay are all in walking-distance.
Two courses will be for teenagers, and one will be for adults. They are a chance to connect deeply with nature, with other art-lovers of like-mind, and with your true inner-self that can be lost in the busyness of the modern world.

keep coming back year after year.
